Recommended timelines for Digital Product Passports
The EU wide requirement to have a Digital Product Passport on all fashion, textile and shoes in 2027 passed in law in July 2024.
What does this mean for you if you are a fashion, textiles or shoe business?
It means you will need to move fast, starting in 2025. Working closely with Byways on care label printing, we’ve got a really clear view on when brands need to act. In order to have a seamless transition, finding the right data and ensuring stock in the EU is not going to be returned to you in 2027, QR codes will need to be on garments or footwear during 2025. We have a brochure showing what you need to do and when, so please do drop us a line and we’ll send you a copy.
What is a Digital Product Passport (DPP)?
DPP’s document many elements, such as supply chain touch points, product lifecycle, material and sustainability attributes.
Our Digital Product Passport tech is being used on thousands and thousands of shoes and garments today.
Why now?
Many of the 100+ high street retailers we are working with are currently planning S/S 2026 or A/W 2026 ranges. These will all almost certainly require a DPP as the stock will still be on sale in 2027. Retro fitting QR codes is possible, but it will require a huge amount of work, simply putting a QR code on product now, will be far, far smoother. We’ll explain why and how below. Firstly, the timeline

Step 1 – 2025 – Q 1/2
As you prepare new product ranges (or get ready to printing continuity lines), make sure the QR is incorporated on the care label, hang tags, shoe boxes etc. The quickest way to use our iQRcode is to point them to either your homepage or to the individual product the QR code is going on. No further data required (apart from the product name, SKU and barcode).
Step 2 – 2025 Q 2,3,4
Let our team build your first consumer app demo for you, remember, zero tech skills are required, all we need to build this is a link to your product along with the SKU and barcode. Once we’ve built it, get the marketing team to think about what else you’d like to drive via the consumer app, it might be newsletter sign-up, loyalty card, showing promo’s, upselling the range. Anything you wish.
Once you have the main demo signed off, our team can upload all of your range fast. We can use CSV files, Amazon data sheets, Shopify data, APi’s.. Then start marketing the app, make the consumers scan it, tell them on social media, in store, in adverts on TV or in press releases.
Step 3 – 2026
As the requirements are updated by the EU, we’ll continuously update the platform. We already have every element the UKFT and BFA recommend displaying for the 2027 DPP, but will keep tweaking to ensure full coverage and compliance. Take 2026 to ensure you have all the data, update all the apps on Buyerdock and be ready for the new law.
In summary
Get the QR code on product now, use it as a marketing tool in 2025 and 2026 and ensure all compliance is completed during 2026 ready for 2027.
We’re running a number of webinars with our partners during Feb and March 2025 and will update the news when we have dates.
