Seen on Shelves: Esska Shoes at John Lewis Welwyn
We recently spotted Esska Shoes in John Lewis Welwyn, with Buyerdock’s iQRcode™ printed on the product packaging.

It’s a great example of how Digital Product Passport readiness is already moving beyond pilot projects and into retail.
A single scan gives consumers access to digital product information including:
- Product information
- Traceability
- AGEC digital information
- French packaging compliance
- A unique digital identity connected through one QR experience
For shoppers, it’s a simple QR code.
For brands, it’s a practical way to connect products with digital information without adding more to the packaging.
From compliance today to what’s next
Esska Shoes didn’t implement Buyerdock’s iQRcode™ because Digital Product Passports are mandatory today.
The goal was to create a single digital touchpoint that supports current business and regulatory requirements while providing the flexibility to add more functionality over time.
As requirements evolve, the same GS1 Digital Link QR code can continue to deliver new information, whether that’s additional compliance content, consumer engagement or Digital Product Passport data, without replacing the QR code already printed on the packaging.
Rather than reacting to future legislation, Esska has already put the right digital infrastructure in place.
A practical example of connected packaging
Digital Product Passports are often discussed as a future requirement, but implementations like this show that brands can start delivering value today.
Consumers gain access to richer product information, while brands establish a scalable foundation that can grow alongside changing regulations.
That’s exactly why we created #SeenOnShelves to showcase real products, in real stores, already demonstrating what’s possible with connected packaging.
